Looking for a Buildertrend alternative
that won’t double your bill?
Buildertrend is a capable platform — but it’s quote-only and priced for bigger residential builders, and buyers report the price climbs at renewal. If you’re a residential GC or remodeler who got priced out, here’s an honest comparison — including the things MAGE does that Buildertrend doesn’t: it gives every bid a Bid Confidence score priced off your own finished jobs, and it protects your margin while the job is still running.

Same job. A fraction of the bill.
One flat, published price — a fraction of what an all-in-one platform quote usually runs — with margin protection on every bid. Start on your first project for free.
Bids built off your real costs.
Buildertrend gives you generic catalog numbers. MAGE prices your next proposal off your own finished jobs — your subs, your supply house, your market — so you stop leaving money on the table or pricing yourself out. Good/better/best, priced to win.

Every job, every margin, in your pocket.
Every job on one phone-first dashboard — live margin and a risk score on each job, so you find out a kitchen reno is bleeding in week 3, while you can still fix it. No back office, and a price you can read on this page instead of a quote. Buildertrend does not charge per seat either — our own table says so; the difference is that they will not tell you the number until you talk to sales.

Who should still pick Buildertrend.
If you’re a high-volume production builder with a full back-office team and deep existing Buildertrend workflows, the switch may not be worth it. MAGE is built for the owner-operator who’s still on a ladder twice a week — and wants to stop losing money on jobs that looked fine on paper.
Questions contractors ask.
Is MAGE ID cheaper than Buildertrend?
Yes — a flat $29–$79/mo with no per-seat fees — unlimited free field seats, and two office seats on Pro, five on Business (the rule in full), vs. Buildertrend’s quote-based pricing, which buyers report runs several hundred dollars a month and climbs at renewal. Buildertrend does not charge per seat either — the difference here is that our number is published.
Can I import my projects?
Partly, and we are specific about which parts. Pipeline, contacts and subs paste across in minutes. Your price book is seeded from rates you already know — stored as a claim, not a measurement, so a seeded book still honestly reads “0 closed jobs”. Schedules import from .xlsx or MS Project XML. Historical job-cost detail from another platform does not come across, on purpose: a half-imported cost history quietly poisons the numbers your estimator learns from. Easiest path is to finish your live jobs where they are and run the next one here.
Does MAGE do scheduling like Buildertrend?
Yes — plus Last Planner pull planning (with weather-aware reflow shipped), which Buildertrend doesn’t have.
Is there a free version?
Yes — free for your first project, and subs are always free, with no per-seat fees.
